• Various behavior patterns of the F_1 hybrids between female adults of P. machaon and male adults of P. xuthus were examined. Though weak, hybrids were able to fly. Their nectar-seeking behavior was also observed. When a hybrid dummy was rotated at a distance of 15-30cm from a resting hybrid, the resting hybrid demonstrated the same flutter response the parental adults made to individuals of their own species. Experiments with dummies of parents and hybrids revealed that male hybrids could respond to dummies by approaching and contacting them.
