During 1966 service a number of flying insects visited a weather ship, Ojika, located at the Ocean Weather Station (OWS), "Tango", Lat. 29°N, Long. 135°E, situated about 500 km south of Cape Shionomisaki on the northwestern Pacific. Pantala flavescens (Fabricius) (Odonata, Libellulidae) A noted migratory dragonfly, ranging circumtropical zone of the world. On June 29, 1966, a few individuals were recognized for the first time of the year. During Aug. 2 to Aug. 8 twenty to thirty individuals were observed every day. On June 29 and Sep. 9 while the Typhoon 6604 (Kit) and 6618 (Cora) were passing, respectively, near Tango point, a few individuals also visited the ship. A numbers of captured specimens were examined, one male insect with reddish-tinted abdomen, many females containing eggs. Usually the dragonflies were brought by westerly surface wind. Therefore, as their exodus site, one can suppose somewhere in the Ryukyu Islands which are situated at least 450 km apart. If the wind velocity was 5 m per second the dragon-flies will cross this range within about 25 hours even if they are simply left adrift in the wind. Macroglossum pyrrhosticta Butler (Lepidoptera, Sphingidae) During Oct. 12 to 16 ten to twenty individuals visited the light of the ship and a specimen was captured (Fig. 4). As the distribution of this moth covers whole Japan, the Ryukyus, Korea, Taiwan, China, India, Ceylon, Lombok, etc., supposition of their exodus site is difficult, but it might also be some island in the Ryukyus.
