It is well known that some scarabaeid beetles deposit their eggs at an almost constant depth in the soil on account of the sensibility of the adult to moisture, hardness and temperature of soil. If female adults are placed in gradient soil temperature conditions, they will deposit their eggs within certain limits of temperature. This experiment was carried out in order to determine the ranges of soil temperatures within which the females of Heptophylla picea Motschulsky, Anomala costata (Hope) and Anomala rufocuprea Motschulsky deposited their eggs. The results obtained are given below : In the laboratory, H. picea deposited their eggs in the range of soil temperature from 9.5℃ to 24.0℃, the average being 17.9℃ ; A. costata from 13.5℃ to 33.5℃, the average 24.8℃ ; and A. rufocuprea from 25.5℃ to 33.2℃, the average 29.3℃. The results obtained are supported by the fact that these ranges are almost the same as those within which the beetles deposit their eggs in the field.
