This report describes the 1970 situation in Japan on the use and application of QT (quenched and tempered) high strength steels, including a detailed introduction into QT steel specifications, design codes and standards of various welded structures, examples of practical applications, problems involved in welding and fabrication, economy, merits and demerits and precautions on the practical use of QT steels. The steels discussed in this report are sutable for pressure vessel and general structural purposes with tensile strengths of 60 to 100 kg/mm^2, as well as for low temperature applications. The structural uses cover crude oil storage tanks, spherical pressure vessels, penstocks, bridges, ships, low temperature tanks, machines, etc.
