A new and more generalized formula P_HA for ccld cracking parameter has been introduced, considering local accumulation of hydrogen, so that the conditions leading to various types of hydrogen-induced cracking in welded high strength steels can be analyzed and predicted using the standard data obtained from the JIS oblique-Y (Tekken type) cracking test. The new cracking parameter makes it possible to deal with the whole range of restraints and a certain range of weld heat inputs. Prediction of the critical values of cooling time and preheating temperature to avoid cold cracking has become possible in many cases of cracking by introducing the concept of equivalent intensity of restraint and equivalent cocling time. The effectiveness of P_HA-prediction has been verified with experimental data. Moreover, the intensity of local hydrogen accumulation is given as a function of inetnsity of restraint and partially as a function of chemical composition.
