This paper presents some experimental data concerning the effect of melting Aluminum 5183 filler wire and SUS 308L stainless filler wire into 0.2% carbon sintered steel and SUS 304L stainless sintered steel joint welded by electron beam while maintaining heat input per unit length constant at 3kj/cm. As the result of the experiment we can clearly observe that porosity was reduced owing to the deoxydizing action of Aluminum or Chromium at the welded joint. In case of sintered steel added with SUS 308L and A5183 filler wire A-porosisy was reduced remarkably over all the range of welding speed from 150 to 600 mm/min. In case of SUS 304L sintered stainless steel added with SUS 308L filler wire the necklace crack, a kind of cold shut, was observed at the welding speed at 150 mm/min. However, at the welding speel of 75 mm/min the necklace crack disappeared and only R-porosity remained. No effect was observed when using A5183 filler wire. In addition, it was found that use of low welding speed was important in attaining porosity-free weld even if the filler metal was used. X-ray micro analyser was used to detect Chromium and Nickel traces which were contained in SUS 308L filler wire in the fused area of sintered steel. It was found that Chromium conetnt diffuses more into base metal than Nickel conetnt.
