Several braze alloys containing palladium have been newly developed for use in high temperature brazing of stainless steel SUS 316 L. Palladium filler metals have excellent high-temperature strength, corrosion and oxidation resistance, ductility, and relatively high melting points and are of lower cost than gold-based filler metals. In this research, two types of palladium-containing brazing filler metals were considered, 40 Pd-50 Ni-10 Co and 30 Pd-50 Ni-10 Cu-10 Co (all in wt-%). Commercially available filler metals, Palladium braze alloy 33 Pd-64 Ag-3 Mn and Nickel-based braze alloy Ni-Co-Cr-Mo-Fe-B were also used. Microstructures and strength properties of brazed joints were studied. Brazed joints with 30 Pd-50 Ni-10 Cu-10 Co had tensile strengths of 516 MPa to 381 MPa at temperatures ranging from 293K to 8 73K, and excellent creep rupture strengths. This filler metal exhibited strength properties superior to those of 33 Pd-64 Ag-3 Mn and Ni-Co-Cr-Mo-Fe-B.
