Annual life cycle of Paratrechina flavipes (SMITH) with special reference to the production of workers and sexuals was studied by examining seasonal change of the immature/worker ratio for each developmental stage. 1) Larvae of all instars and adult workers are found throughout the year, whereas eggs, prepupae and pupae occur only in the warm season from June to September. 2) Workers are produced either from posthibernating larvae or from eggs in the year. Complete replacement of old workers by callows takes place in September. The maximum life span of workers, including the immature period, is estimated to be about two years. 3) Sexuals also have the two origins as in workers. Both gyne and male alates hibernate in colonies and make nuptial flights in late June to early July of the next year.
