Structure of the chorion in Atrachya menetriesi was examined with scanning electron microscopes. The surface of the chorion is marked with hexagonal patterns which are moulded by the follicle cells in the ovariole. The micropyle is situated at the anterior end of the egg. The chorion consists of four distinct layers : the inner layer is about 1.4μ thick and very solid ; the mid-layer is about 1.4μ thick and porous ; the outer layer is about 4μ thick and traversed by aeropylar pits ; the thin extrachorion might be secreted over the outer layer in the calyx of the ovary. Many cracks appear in the extrachorion as the egg swells by absorbing water. The number of polygons on the egg surface was slightly larger in the diapause eggs than in the non-diapause ones. Both the whole eggs and cast-off chorions were significantly heavier in the former than in the latter.
