The ZW and WW females of Armadillidium vulgare were completely masculinized by the implantation of androgenic glands. In these masculinized females, the androgenic glands primordia developed into the androgenic glands at the cephalic ends of the newlyformed testes. By the implantation of these newlyformed androgenic glands to the young females, the external sexual characteristics and internal reproductive organs of the recipients were masculinized. Therefore, the primordia of the androgenic glands in the genetic females could develop into functional androgenic glands which synthesize and secrete the androgenic gland hor mone.
