A nickel particle ingested by Amoeba (proteus type) was moved by magnetic force, and the physical properties of ectoplasmic gel were investigated. The traces of the magnetically moved nickel particles revealed that the ectoplasm was a visco-elastic gel. The anterio-posterior gradient of viscoelasticity was found along the streaming axis of the cytoplasm. Moreover, the viscosity and the elasticity of the ectoplasmic gel was found to be positively correlated. The classical idea that the ectoplasmic gel is the tube of homogeneous colloidal gel was criticized. It was suggested from the records of the moved particles that the elasticity stated above was not a simple one but had mixed properties of both pure elasticity and retarded elasticity.
