During the breeding season, if normal males and females of the fish, Oryzias latipes, are kept together in an aquarium, the females lay eggs early in the morning almost every day soon after finishing mating behavior. If females are kept isolated from males, the females fail to lay eggs. Even if the eyes are removed from laying females, the females are capable of continuing to lay eggs normally provided that the females are kept with intact males. However, if males are enucleated, no oviposition takes place in females kept together with these operated males.
