In the course of histological studies of dental tissues of Callvodon ovifrons (Temminch et Schlegel) and Calotomus japonicus (Cuvier et Valenciennes), a kind of alga was found to grow on the teeth and their surrounding tissues (oral mucosa and alveolar bones). As shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 the alga a genus of Ectocarpales, is not only growing on the surface of the teeth but also into the dentin. The affected dentinal tissue presents the resorption lacunae just like those of Howship. The enamel is, however, always free from parasitic invasion presumablv because of the hardness of the tissue.
