Euselenops (Euselenops) luniceps (Cuvier, 1817) (Figs. 1-2) The animal in life is about 7cm long. Dorsally it is of a pale orangeyellow and is beautifully spotted with brown-black blotches, many of which are circular in outline. Otherwise, all the essential external characters of our specimen are very similar to those already described in E. (E.) luniceps (Cuvier). The body is short, oval and much depressed. The crescentic head-veil with 3-4 rows of small dendritic papillae on the anterior ventral margin. Mantle noticeably smaller than foot. It is asymmetrical in outline, the right margin being extended further so as to cover the gill. A short excurrent siphon at the posterior end of the mantle. Rhinophores canaliculiform. Upper surface of body more or less rugose. Rachis of gill with a double row of small knobs. Sole discoid. No pedal gland. In the preserved state the afore-said ground-colour of the animal is altered to a dull ashy white, but the brown-black blotches on the upper side are clearly visible as they were before. The underside of the head-veil and the foot are in part covered with brown-black pigment. An additional band of the same colour is visible in the median line of the sole. A pair of jaw-plates: the elements are provided each with 8-10 denticles on the edge. Radula formula 95×235. 0.235. All the lateral teeth are simply unciform. Loc.: Hayama, Sagami Bay, collected by a fishing net from the bottom (Aug. 1949, 1 sp.).
