Three species of the genus Notarchus (subg. Stylocheilus) have recently been collected from the sea around us. They were tentatively classified as bellow, but all of them appeared to resemble each other in the external body-form as well as in the main internal organs such as jaw-plates, radula and penis armatures. 1. Notarchus (Stylocheilus) longicaudus (Quoy & Gaimard 1824). Text-figs. 1, A; 2, A-D. A typically striated and ocellated form. General body-colour translucent yellowish brown, the striations black, the ocelli consisting each of a brownish ring with a blue eye-spot in the centre. Body up to 40mm in length. Loc.: Kii, Sagami Bay and Toyama Bay. Circumequatorial, occurring also in Riukiu. 2. Notarchus (Stylocheilus) rufus (Quoy & Gaimard 1832) Text-fig. 2, E. The animal here referred to rufus has the general appearance of longicaudus, but it differs from the latter species in the absence of the ocellar markings. Length of body 15mm. Loc.: Seto, Kii (Aug. 1951, 2 sps., coll. by Mr. Hamatani). 3. Notarchus (Stylocheilus) risbeci Engel 1936 Text-figs. 1, B; 2, F. The animal here referred to the above species is yellowish green in general colour and the scattered ocelli are each composed of an orange-yellow iris and a central blue eye-spot. No black striations are present altogether. The sole paler than above. Loc.: Abugashima, Toyama Bay (Aug. 1951, 1 sp., coll. by Mr. Koshino).
