Evoxymetopon taeniatus Poey, a very rare and curious fish belonging to the Lepidopidae, originally known from Cuba, was captured by a large trap-net, on April 14, 1938, on the coast of Kyosai-to, an island near Husan, South Korea, and was deposited in our station. It is a large female fish of 1, 475mm in total length, and coincides well with the description and figure of the original Cuban specimen given by Goode & Bean (Oceanic Ichthyology, p. 204, fig. 214, 1895) and by Jordan & Evermann (Fishes of North and Middle America. Part I, p. 886, fig. 372, 1896). D. 81. A. 49, of which only posterior 15 are normal rays, the anterior ones being represented by short hidden spines. A single scute on the ventral edge 21mm posteriorly to the anus. P. 12. Ventrals are represented by a pair of scaly flaps. Colour silverly all over with 8 yellowish longitudinal streaks from behind the head to the tail, the fifth streak on the lateral line and the broadest. The dorsal membrane dusky anteriorly, otherwise colourless. Pectorals colourless. Caudal fin pale olivaceous basally dusky.
