J.F.MUELLER reported in 1935 that he had discovered a new species of Cestoda which he named Diphyllobothrium mansonoides. According to his report, these worms were found parasiting in cats and dogs of the Syracuse region in U.S.A. Comparing the characteristics of MUELLER'S D.mansonoides with D.erinacei (RUDOLPHI, 1819) that I emended in 1933. The resemblances are such that I do not see the justification for this apecies to be specially called D.mansonoides as a distinct species apart from D.erinacei. My experiment with D.erinacei extends as far back as 1930. I have planted many plerocercoides of D.erinacei in dogs and obtained adult worms at various stages of growth. Some of the proglottids of the worms that I had examined and reported in 1933 as D.erinacei closely resemble D.mansonoides. One of these worms which was extracted from an experimental dog, 17 days after its entering the dog's intestine, measured 58cm in length and 0.8cm in width and its uterus had 2-5 coils in number. Each uterine coils had anterior two sections jointed by a narrow isthmus-like joint. Following MUELLER'S report (1935), M.S.SKINKER stated that D.mansonoides is a synonym of D.mansoni (COBBOLD, 1882), but in view of my contention that D.mansoni is the synonym of D.erinacei, I conclude that D.mansonoides is a synonym of D.erinacei.
