Rod-let granules have been described by Hammond (1937) at the base of the sensory bristles of Euplotes. In addition, the present author found similar rod-let granules (1-1.5μ in length and 0.2-0.3μ in width) at the vase of the oral membrene, the undulating membrane and the cirri (Fig. 3, 4). These granules are located keeping a close relation in their position to the basal granules. The rod-let granules were stained with aceto-gentianviolet or aceto-methylgreen, although the staining reaction varied in its strength with the change of condition of nutrition. The rod-let granules may have a role in the morphogenesis of organelles during the fission of Euplotes, since they show similar behavior during the period of fission.
