Mouse testes were irradiated with 450γ, and the behavior of germ-cells was observed 10, 20, 30, and 240 days after exposure. Treated testes showed seminiferous tubules which were strikingly destroyed without active spermatogenesis, whereas interstitial cells were found well-developed 30 days after exposure. Mature spermatozoa and active spermatogenesis were found in seminiferous tubules 240 days after irradiation. Cytological abnormalities observed here were the coalescence or clumping of chromosomes, formation of chromosomal bridges, irregular arrangement of mataphase chromosomes, and abnormal behavior of chromosomes at anaphase.
