Photoexcitive neurones of Onchidium were concurrently the second order neurones relaying the responses to tactile stimuli of the mantle. This implies that the photoexcitive neurones play a role in regulating the transmission of the tactile sensory information. Moreover, we observed that a stereotyped levation movement of the mantle was elicited by the tactile stimuli given to the mantle. These results, therefore, suggested that the photoexcitive neurones regulated the mantlelevating response.
