Ultracytochemical localization of cholinesterase (ChE) and acid phosphatase (AcPase) activities was examined in the eggs of Tribolodon hakonensis. In addition to cortical alveoli, two kinds of small granules (A- and B-granules) were found: the A-granules were present in the cytoplasm around the cortical alveoli in the unfertilized eggs, and the B-granules appeared in small clusters within the cytoplasm of the fertilized eggs. The reaction product of ChE activity was localized on the plasma membrane, in the cytoplasm and cortical alveoli, but not in the A- and B-granules. No reaction product of AcPase activity was demonstrated in the cortical alveoli or the A- and B-granules.
