In the primary culture of rat hepatocytes, C-reactive protein (CRP) was synthesized and released into the medium. The supernatant of the rat macrophages facilitated the production of CRP, while those from thymocytes and splenocytes had no effect. The incubation of macrophages with rat CRP resulted in the generation of superoxide anion. These results suggest that there are some interaction between CRP and macrophages in the rat.
