Introduction Developments in networking CPUs,and compression standards have given birth to Continuous media application retrieving displaying, and manipulation of Continuous a data such as digital audio digital video, and animation are the basic features provided by these applications. Continuous media, known also as isochronous media or time-based data (or Sometimes sensitive data) has critical timing Constraints (discrete media -as opposed to this- does not exhibit regularity In time, e.g. file transfer, remote login) Continuous meda traffic places bandwidth, law latency, low jitter and multicasting requirements at the network which makesdevelopment of new protocols necessary Below is a very brief overview of the existing approaches in the area continuous media protocols.
