Transverse electromagnetic cells - also known as TEM cells - have been designed and constructed at NIST (Former NBS). Originally they were introduced for performing radiated electromagnetic emission and susceptibility measurements of electronic equipment. Recently it, however, has been used also in order to measure transmission and reception characteristics of equipment which is positively coupled with electromagnetic waves by antennas such as papers. This paper discusses about the measurement error of the reception characteristics of electrically small radio equipment using a TEM cell. The numerical results in the free space and in a TEM cell are compared.
