Recently, spatial velocity distribution in the vessel has become of interest in biomedical engineering. We have developed a telemetry system for measuring blood velocity in exercising subjects. Doppler method of continuous-wave ultrasound was used in the system. Velocity spectrogram was obtained by Hanning windowed fast Fourier transformation of the telemetered date. Using the velocity spectrum, we have reconstructed spatial profile of the blood velocity. In the previous study, we have assumed that the ultrasonic field across the blood vessel was homogeneous. However, two semicircular transducers were used as the transmitter and receiver in the study, and they produced non-homogeneous acoustic field over the section of the blood vessel. It may cause changes in the received velocity spectral distribution. In this report, we investigated the acoustic field of semicircular transducers across the blood vessel, and their effects on the velocity spectral distribution.
