This paper describes a method for dealing with a soft object in a virtual environment. A spring network is employed for representing a soft object where a human face is an example. We use a bubble mesh algorithm which can set up bubbles (or nodes) with approximately equal spaces and then a Vornoi diagram method for connecting the nodes. Softness is realized with the spring network where each connection is replaced with a spring. The spring coefficients are determined so that the softness of a virtual object is exactly as that of a real object. The non-linearity of a spring is set so that we can not reach the depth below the 20% of the thickness of the part of skin. We built a force feedback system based on a PHANToM which enables us to operate deformation on a part of the object of interest and feel virtual force.
