Narrow-band WDM transmission characteristics with optical SSB modulation have been analyzed. The modulator was constructed with a Hilbert Transformer of finite order. In single-channel transmission, we indicated that the eye-opening penalty is dependant on specification of the transformer and the optical de-multiplexer, and can be decreased by applying electrical amplitude equalization to a low-frequency band. We then calculated the eye opening with various order transformers, with an optimized de-multiplexer for each order and with WDM signals in two neighboring channels. Except for very low-order transformers, the effectiveness of equalization improves with transformer order, which drastically improves the eye-opening characteristics.
