Fourier synthesis of ultrafast optical-pulse trains was demonstrated using a simplified experimental configuration consisting of three independent continuous-wave lasers and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) used as a four-wave mixer. When the three lasers were phase-locked, ultrafast opticalpulse trains were successfully generated at repetition frequencies ranging from 504GHz to 1.8THz with high waveform stability.
