As a first step toward a realization of hyper-realistic communications: something beyond realistic face-to-face communications, we are investigating on expressing various feelings and emotion by means of multimedia, especially, images and videos. In this paper, we focus on extracting and exploiting depth information. After a brief introduction to our image expression system, we propose a method to acquire depth map from multiple parallel stereo images. A novel hierarchical estimation scheme combined with a nonlinear collection and summation of disparity information results in dense and correct shape-preserving depth map. Then, we present some new video expressions using the depth information obtained by the proposed acquisition method.
