We describe the growth of magnetic nanostructures on carbon nanotube templates. The nanotubes were grown by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition. The as grown nanotubes were aligned reasonably well around the substrate normal directions. Magnetic thin films with different thickness were coated on the nanotubes. Scanning electron microscopy studies revealed that the magnetic materials were coated quite uniformly on the tubes, resulting in wire-like structures. The hysteresis loops of the nanostructures have been measured using a vibrating sample magnetometer at both room and elevated temperatures. The shape of the hysteresis loops suggested that there exists a strong magnetostatic interaction among the wires which was expected from the small interwire spacing. Multiple steps have been observed in the coercivity versus temperature curve, which is attributed to the distribution of blocking temperature in the magnetic nanostructures.
