Adaptative Embedding Method of Digital Watermarking for Still Images Using Wavelet Transform

In this paper, we propose an adaptive watermarking method based on features of two types of methods. One is a quantizing method for wavelet transform coefficients and the other uses the difference between adjacent wavelet coefficients. The quantizing method has the feature that degradation will not be easily detected in the embedding in edge areas, although degradation will be easily detected in the embedding in flat areas. The method using the difference between adjacent wavelet coefficients has the feature of having strong resistance to attacks, although embedding in edge areas is impossible. Thus, since these two methods have mutually complementary characteristics, the adaptive method embeds information using the differences between adjacent wavelet coefficients for flat areas while the quantizing method does so for edge areas. Simulation results show that the proposed method improved both SNR and robustness against malicious attacks than the current methods.
