The etiologic agent of the aquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a retrovirus presently designated as human immunodeficiericy virus (HIV). HIV is found to have some varieties (HIV-1 and HIV-2) and is suggested to have a similarity to simian AIDS virus (SIV). This report presents ultrastructural features of HIV and its related viruses in morphology and morphogenesis, comparing with SIV, and the infection of HIV into the cells.
