We examined the relationship between regulating respiration and alpha activity enhancement. Respiration is one of the autonomous functions. It is accepted that not only the autonomic respiration system is autonomous but that it is controlled by the brain's central nervous functions. In all sorts of autonomic signals, a breathing rate is the easiest for us to consciously regulate. In our studies, the subject had to breath keeping time with a conditioned breathing rhythm, under the normal rate, the higher rate, and the lower rate. Next, he was conducted to breath under the lower rate with vibratory alpha feedback. The results shows that the slowed rate is effective for alpha enhancement, and using feedback is more effective.
