Most of the studies reported to date on the thermal characteristics of the human teeth have been based on specimens of various tissues. With a view to determining the characteristics of the human whole tooth, thermal diffusivity was determined by the comparative measurement based on non-stationary heat transmission, and the specific heat and gravity were also measured. With these data as the reference, the heat transmission coefficient, which could not be measured directly, was calculated. The results were as follows : 1. The experiment apparatus and method, of the comparative measurement for determining the thermal diffusivity. are simple and the heat loss need not be considered, As a result, the experiment proved to be quite accurate. 2. The thermal diffusivity of the human teeth was (2.34±0.16)×10^<-3>cm^2/sec for the ones preserved in air and (2.34±0.16)×10^<-3>cm^2/sec for the ones in physiological salt solution. 3. The specific heat was 0.242 cal/g ℃. 4. The specific gravity was 2.24. 5. The heat transmission coefficients by calculation were (1.27±0.08)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ for the ones preserved in air and (1.27±0.08)×10^<-3> cal/cm・sec ℃ for the ones in physiological salt solution. The average and the standard deviation of all the test pieces was (1.27±0.08)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃. 6. Human teeth of immediately after extraction to 400 days thereafter were used. The thermal diffusivity varied to some extent with the time elapse. 7. The averages and the standard deviations of the heat transmission coefficients were (1.23±0.09)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ for the third molars and (1.28±0.08)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ for the other teeth. 8. The heat transmission coefficients were (1.24±0.06)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ in the twenties, (1.23±0.09)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ inthe thirties, (1.29±0.09)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ in the fourties and (1.30±0.07)×10^<-3>cal/cm・sec ℃ in the fifties and over.
