歯科鋳造用埋没材に関する研究(第 1 報) : 2 水塩結晶の微細構造と表面粗サとの関係

Many studies have been recently described with respect to the many physical properties and technical methods of the dental investment, however, a few reports have been appeared with regard to the measuring of the surface roughness of the dental investment. In this paper, the structural details of the surface of the set dental stones and investment were studied under the scanning electron microscope using two dental stones (class I and class II stones) and the cristobalite investment as the source of materials. The specimens were covered with carbon and gold in vacuo before observation. The surface structure of the set dental stones and the investment were photographed, followed by measuring of the surface roughness with horizontal line scanning of electron probe of the secondary emission. The overlapped micrographs, which were obtained by overlapping the electron probe pattern on the electron micrograph of the same surface, revealed well the correlation between the surface structure of the materials and its surface roughness. Major results were as follows : 1. This electron line scanning method is by far accurate compared with the usual method by mechanical surface analyser and makes it possible to repeat on the same region. 2. The overlapped micrograph is a epoch-making method by which the correlation between the surface structure of the materials and its surface roughness is able to be studied. 3. The overlapped micrograph made clear that the usual roughness test has a limit caused by the size of stylus tip and true roughness, consequently, is in existence. 4. The mean value of the surface roughness decreased in order class I dental stone, class II dental stone and cristobalite investment. 5. The surface of the set cristobalite investment is almost all covered with dihydrate crystals of the class I stone. 6. It seems that the difference in setting expansion between class I and class II stones is caused by the morphologic difference of the dihydrate crystals.
