This survey attempts to clarify when, to what degree, dependent upon what kinds of teachers, and in what ways, ten types of newer instructional media were introduced as educational innovations to the Japanese educational scene. Questionnaires were submitted to 5, 300 teachers throughout the country. The replies were analyzed regarding (1) attitudes towards new methods of education, (2) characteristics of utilization, (3) features of the processes of diffusion, and (4) interruption and termination of use following adoption. Also studied were the general characteristics of the diffusion of these media in Japan, the differences between their individual processes of diffusion, and the characteristics of each media as seen from the standpoint of the teachers' adoption behaviors. Based upon this analysis the need for the technology for creating desirable change in education is discussed.
