• I have performed following experiments in the second section of the study. Rabbits were sensitized by intravenous and subcutaneous innoculations of streptococci viridans in combination with phoshatide obtained from human endocardium or myocardium. Nine days later, the same material was injected intravenously. Body temperature, body weight and urines did not show a remarkable change, but electrocardiogram showed the picture of myocardial damages. The blood picture was that of leucocytosis. CPR-reaction (Araki) became positive. Streptococci were detected from blood, by culture, in 4 animals after reinjection.The histological findings in the second experiment were those of more striking allergic interstitial myocarditis and endocaditis verrucosa as compared to the findings in the controls. Especially there were conspicuous perivascular granulomata, or marked basophilic cells infiltration. These cells consisted of plasma cells, fibroblasts, histiocytes and monocytes etc.I sensitized the experimental rabbits with streptococci viridans together with phosphatide obtained from heart-muscle or endocardium. After 9 days the same materials were injected. Clinically changes were little in body weight, body temperature, urines, blood pressure and blood picture, but electrocardiogram showed the picture of myocardial damage after the reinjection, and CPR-reaction was positive. Histologically, there were the pictures of interstitial myocarditis, endocarditis verrucosa and perivascular granulomata, these pictures being more marked in the animals reinjected with streptococci in combination with phosphatide than in those reinjected with streptococci only. It may be concluded that when animals are highly sensitized to streptococci, reinjection of the same streptococci viridans in combination with phosphatide of heart-muscle or endocardium give rise to allergic interstitial myocarditis, perivascular granulomata and endocarditis verrucosa.It has been sown that phosphatide of myocardium and endocardium acts so as to draw streptococci to the heart.
