The Acquisition of Argument Structure in Second Language Acquisition

The purpose of this study is to examine the acquisition of argument structure by L2 learners. The focus is on a specific grammatical item: psychological verbs. Psych verbs are assumed to be quite difficult for learners to acquire and errors associated with them have been reported (e. g. Dulay et al. 1982). However, until recently, little research has been done on the acquisition of psych verbs. In this study, we deal with the grammatical properties of psych verbs in English and Japanese and consider learning problems caused by the verbs.
