In this research I describe the way of explaining typical aspects of Japanese history and culture to foreigners as an intercultural communication. The outlines of this explanation will be as follows: Japanese "culture" is actually multicultural. Based on historical cultures (Jomon, Yayoi, and Kofun, Chinese influence also), major three cultures grew in Japan (Kuge, Buke, and Chonin), they later matured and generalized into indigenous Japanese culture in Edo era. Buddhism flourished in Central Asia and reached Japan is the most impotant element. Though Meiji Restoration and defeat in Pacific theatre of World War II made Japan discard its own tradition twice, today under economical depression, appreciation of Edo culture enjoys renaissance. In addition, this research will also help lifetime-education for Japanese itself.
