Extraction spectrophotometric determination of gllium in aluminum with Rhodamine B has been invesdgated. The optimum concentration of hydrochloric acid for the extraction of gallium Rhodamine B complex into mixed solvent (MIBK and benzene, 1+6) was (4.25〜6.25) N in the presence of less than 50mg of aluminum and (3.0〜5.0) N in the presence of 500mg of aluminum, respecdvely. A procedure established is as follows. Method A{(0.001〜0.03)% gallum}: A half gram of sample is dissolved in 10ml of hydrochloric acid (1+1), if necessary, nickel chloride solution (0.3mg nickel) is added. A small amount of hydrogen peroxide is added and the solution is boiled to destroy the excess hydrogen peroxide. After coolhg, the solution is made up to 100ml with water, 10ml of which is taken into a 50ml separatory funnel and 10ml of hydrochloric acidis added, To the funnel is added 1ml of 20% titanium trichloride solution, and the solution is allowed to stand for 10minutes. One ml of 0.5% Rhodamine B solution and 25ml of mixed solvent (MIBK and benzene,1+6) are added, the solution is shaken for 1minute and allowed to stand for about 10 minutes. After discararding the aqueous layer, the organic layer is filtered through a dry filter paper and the absorbance is measured at 563nm in a 1cm cell. Method B{(0.0001〜0.002)% gallium}: A half gram of sample is dissolved in 10ml of hydrochloric acid (1+1) contahhg nickel chloride (0.3mg nickel), and the solution is evaporated to dryness on a water bath.
