A phosphorimetric assay of cystine aminopeptidase in biological samples is described. p-Nitroaniline, formed enzymatically from S-benzyl-L-cysteinyl-p-nitroanilide, is extracted with ether and determined phosphorimetrically in a mixture of ether and ethanol. The method is precise and very sensitive, reguiring as little as 0.5 μl of human serum or 0.5-1.0 μg of protein of rat tissue.
