SYNERGISTIC EXTRACTION OF DITHIZONATOFERRATE (II) WITH NITROGENOUS BASES

The synergistic extraction equilibria of dithizonatoferrate (II) were studied. The extraction reaction of iron (II) with a mixture of dithizone (H_2dz)and pyridine(Py) was expressed as; Fe^<2+>+2H_2dz, _org+2py,_<org> ⇄ Fe(Hdz)_2(py)_<2´org+2H^+, where the subscript org denotes the chloroform phase. The addition of 2,2´-dipyridyl (dpy) results in the formation of two types of adducts, i.e.Fe(Hdz)_2dpy and Fe(dz) dpy. On the other hand, 1,10-Phenanthroline (phen) as an additive, forms only Fe (dz) phen, which is fairly stable green species having absorption maxima at 465 and 610 nm.
