In new applications like distributed database systems and group ware systems and broadcast communication among multiple entities in a group (or cluster) is required and various kinds of data have to be communicated among multiple entities. For example, update commands are broadcast to the entities while some entity transfers a file. In these applications, the delivery order of protocol data units (PDUs) is critical. Also, some PDUs with control data have to bedelivered earlier than another PDU. One approach to providing a communication service required in such applications is to give a priority to each PDU and to deliver PDUs with higher priority to the destination earlier than lower ones. In this paper, we discuss broadcast protocols which provide priority-based receipt ordering of PDUs for entities in the cluster.
