The thiamine concentration in the blood, cerebrospinal fluid and ocular tisuues was determined in rabbits, using the thiochrome method. The results were summerized as follows : Following the administration of cortone, a definite increase of total thiamine in the retina, total and free thiamine and cocarboxylase in the optic nerve and choroid, and slight increasing tendency of cocarboxylase in the blood, cerebrospinal fluid and aqueous humor were observed. The joint use of cortone and thiamine resulted in a more marked increase of combined thiamine in the retina and optic nerve than was observed after single thiamine administration. The same tendency was observed in the blood, aqueous humor and vitreous body. The daily administration of cortone for ten days caused a marked decrease in the concentration of thiamine, especially of phosphorylated one in the ocular tisues. Bilateral adrenalectomy resulted in an increase of free thiamine and decrease of combined thiamine in the blood, retina, optic nerve and choroid, but when thiamine and cortone were jointly given after a week, increase in combined thiamine was more marked than when thiamine was singly given to normal rats. The admininistration of ACTH caused a marked increase of total thiamine in the retina and optic nerve and of free thiamine in the optic nerve and cocarboxylase in the optic nerve and choroid. Thiamine and its ester in the blood also showed a tendency to increase. It was concluded that adrenal hormone exercised an influence on the distribution of thiamine in the ocular tissues and that this hormone accelerated the phosphorylation of thiamine.
