The present investigation was undertaken to see the effect of thiamine disulfide bismonophosphat (TDSMP) on the movement of the Thiry-Vella jejunal loop and an extirpated part of the small intestine of dogs. A remarkable promotion of the intestinal movement was observed for 40 minutes or more by intravenous injection of 6.3-12.5 mg of TDSMP per kg of body weight. Furthermore, intravenous injection of 6.3mg/kg of TDSMP recovered conspicuously the movement of the intestine, weakened by an administration of sodium pentobarbital. In addition, movement of an extirpated specimen of small intestine adhered to longitudinal and circular muscles was remarkably accelerated by administration of 10 mg of TDSMP per 100ml solution. The efficacy was almost as high as that of 1 mg/100 ml of acetylcholine. On the other hand, no effect was observed on the movement of the extirpated small intestine with only circular muscle. In view of the above fact, it may be supposed that TDSMP mainly works on nerve-factor in the intestinal wall and accelerates the intestinal movement.
