The sensitivity of the resistant strain of pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus was tested with different mixed concentrations of penicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline, chloramphenicol and erythromycin.It was found that the mixture of penicillin and any one of the other antibiotics was most effective, and that such mixture of antibiotics showed synergistic action to the resistant strain. However, in all cases, the amount of antibiotics needed to inhibit the growth of the resistant strain was found to more than the minimal inhibitory concentration against a non-resistant strain.It was therefore considerded that studies on a new antibiotic which had high activity against the resistant strain were important problem. By using the streak method, 150 strains of Streptomyces producing antibiotics were selected from 275 strains isolated from soil and 3 of them showed activity against the resistant strain.Finaly, by using shake flask culture studies, the strains 35 NT and 78 NT were selected as antibiotic-producing strains which had a high activity against the resistant strain.
