The crude cellulolytic enzyme produced by Trichoderma koningi was purified by means of gel filtration using various types of Sephadex. Consequently the fraction having a strong activity on filter paper degradation but a weak activity on viscosity reduction for carboxymethyl cellulose was able to be separated from the other fraction having a strong activity on viscosity reduction for carboxymethyl cellulose but a weak activity on filter paper degradation. The former enzyme fraction was not yet homogeneous, because two or more peaks were observed on the pattern of electrophoresis for the fraction. The activity on reducing sugar formation from cellulose powder on the purified enzyme was paralled with the activity on filter paper degradation on the same enzyme.On the crude cellulolytic enzyme, some enzymic properties were investigated : the crude enzyme exhibits optimum activity on reducing sugar formation from cellulose powder at the range of pH 4.5-5.0 and on viscosity reduction for carboxymethyl cellulose at the range of pH 5.0-6.0. And it was observed that the Whatman's standard cellulose powder was digested by the crude enzyme less than Toyoroshi's filter paper, Light's cellulose powder and Avicel.
