Methods for predicting the sugi bark-borer adult emergence time in Toyama Prefecture were analyzed based upon data of adult emergence from caged logs of infested sugi (Cryptomeria japonica D.DON) from 1980 to 1985 at the Forest Experiment Station. As the accumulated emergence curves of male, female, and total individuals each year fit the RICHARDS growth function, the dates of 5%, 50%, and 95% adult emergence were estimated from theoretical functions. The dates had high negative correlations with mean temperature from March 1 to 20 and from March 1 to 31. The date of 50% adult emergence coincided with the time of flowering of Yoshino cherry (Prunus yedoensis MATSUMURA). Therefore, with these relationships it will be possible to predict the adult emergence time with a great accuracy.
