• Some consideration has been made in this report on the basis of the results analysed in the last report : (1) As for the seedbed circumstance of this experiment, it falls under the case where the seedbed exposes fresh moisture soil, having been bared of both living and dead ground covers, and the gradient of the ground is nearly level so that slipping down of the beech seeds scarcely occurs.(2) The fresh bare soil bed as mentioned above is exceedingly favorable to the germination of the beech.In such case, it may be said that even an extreme condition that the seedbeds are exposed to direct sunlight will not impede germination, and that as for the crown cover, so slight a cover as of an isolated single seed-tree will show no significant effect on the germinating density around the seed-tree.(3) On condition that the seedbed circumstances are as mentioned in (1), mean germinating density as related to the four levels (C_1,....C_4) of the distance from the isolated crown may be shown as in Tab. 1,indicating the manner of mean distance effect which makes the density decrease rapidly near the crown and gradually decreases with the distance.The difference in the crown conditions (Tab. 2) seems to modify the distance effect to some extent, significantly between C_1 and C_2,non-significantly between C_3 and C_4 (Tab. 3). From a practical stand of view, however, such a modification may be negligible so far as the results of the natural seeding are aimed at within the limit of a sphere under crown and its vicinity (C_1 and C_2).(4) The above-mentioned must not be considered too widely applicable, beyond the conditions shown in (1) : Tab. 4 shows an example on a slope of approximately 25 degrees, where the distance effect has been absolutely disturbed by the slipping down of the seeds; another example shows, in the same experimental spots P_1 and P_2,that on actual area of no treatment, no germination has been found even under the crown.
