In the present report, the wind direction will be discussed as a dominant factor in this case which affects the directional variation of germinating densities through the influence on the seed dissemination from the isolated beech seed-tree.(1) Judging chiefly from the manner of variation (Tab. 1), it may be considered that the condition of the wind direction varies with the strength of the winds and the conditions of the topography (Fig. 1), as follows : 1. The winds which are so feeble as to let the seeds fall on the area under the isolated crown (C_1) : nothing is significant in this experiment.2. The winds which are rather weak to disseminate the seeds on the area just outside the crown (C_2) : (a) they will blow least nearly from the east in common with the experimental spots P_1 and P_2,owing to the common topographic condition of large scope (Fig. 1), while (b) as for the individual topographic conditions of small scope (Fig.1), their modifing effects on the direction of these winds are not significantin this experiment.3. The winds which are so strong as to blow the seeds on the area far from the crown (C_3,C_4) : their direction will be modified even by the individual topographic conditions of small scope so remarkably that, at P_1,they will blow prevailingly at right angle to the elevation, while, at P_2,upward along the depression.(2) Referring to the confidence interval of the mean germinating density in each distance (Tab. 1 in the preceding report), those stated in (1) 1 and (2) 2 (b) may be negligible for the practical purpose.(3) Thus, in conclusion, following two aspects may be practically capable in this case, depending upon the distance from the crown in which the natural seeding is required in the practice : 1. In case within the limit of the area just outside the crown (C_2), it may be simply accepted that the isolated seedtress on the elevation (P_1) as well as at the depression (P_2) will disseminate the seeds under the same same condition of wind direction, owing to the common topographic condition of large scope.2. In case within the wider sphere further including the area far from the crown (that is, C_2,C_3 and D_4), it must be accepted that they will do so under different conditions of wind direction, owing to the different individual topographic conditions of small scope.
